In casual speech 'going to' often sounds like 'gonna' /ˈɡənə/.

Don't write 'gonna' — but you will hear it everywhere.

  • • I'm going to call you. → I'm gonna call you.
  • • She's going to be late. → She's gonna be late.
  • • What are you going to do? → What are you gonna do?

Use 'am / is / are + going to + base verb' to talk about plans and intentions.

When to use it

  • Negative: '…not going to…'.
