Understand it
UnderstandOne thing = singular. Two or more = plural. Most words just take -s. Some spellings need a small change.
- Most words: + s → book → books
- -s, -ss, -sh, -ch, -x: + es → bus → buses, watch → watches
- consonant + y: y → ies → city → cities
- A few words change completely → man → men, child → children
Notice the sound

- books, cats, maps/s/ — sharp
- pens, doors, boys/z/ — soft
- buses, boxes, watches/ɪz/ — extra syllable
