What it is

'Be going to + verb' expresses a plan or intention already decided, and predictions based on what you can see now.

I am going to visit my grandma tomorrow.
We are going to travel in July.

Use it when

You have already decided: I'm going to study tonight.
You describe arrangements for the near future.
You predict from evidence: Look at those clouds — it's going to rain.

What it is

'Will + base verb' is used for decisions made at the moment of speaking, offers, promises and general predictions.
